Everest Base Camp Trek: An Ultimate Adventure Trek in the Himalaya
During the Mount Everest base camp trek, we walk through the same trail that was once stepped on by Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Sir Edmund Hillary on their ascent to Mount Everest. The sheer presence in the trail is an experience of a lifetime. The similar flow towards the summit of the majestic peak gave rise to various possibilities among the adventure-seekers. Trek to Everest base camp has become an absolutely perfect adventure for those who are seeking closeness with nature, fun, thrill, and adventure at the same time.
As the trek progresses, one can see the majestic view of Mount Everest, in addition to other mountains, towering right by your side. You will also find other attractions like the ancient Tengboche monastery, the famous Everest Base Camp, the incredible Khumbu Icefall Glacier, and Kalapatthar. Kalapatthar is one of the best viewpoints in the Everest region. Although Everest Base Camp Trek or Everest Three Pass Trek can be pursued throughout the year, the most favorable seasons are autumn and spring. The Spring season in Nepal falls under the months of March to May and the Autumn season falls under the months of September to November.
During autumn one can experience excellent weather and breath-taking mountain sceneries while during the spring, varying species of wildflowers especially Red Rhododendron make the trekking trail surreal.
The Everest Base Camp Trek starts from Lukla, after taking a flight from Kathmandu. The trail from Lukla extends to Phakding along the Dudh Koshi River Valley and then to Namche Bazaar. On the way ahead, a breathtaking view of Everest flashes a smile at you from the grounds of the Tengboche monastery. On walking downwards to the village of Pangboche and upwards to Dingboche, one can get acquainted with the local culture and traditions of the Sherpa people. Then on to the Khumbu Glacier, we will reach Lobuche from where we can enjoy the view of many peaks such as Ama Dablam, Taweche, etc. The next destination will be Gorak Shep from where we can move towards the Everest Base Camp – the ultimate destination on the trip.

Accommodation on the Trek
Everest Base Camp Trek uses Lodge accommodations along the trail. Nice lodges have been established in different places in the region. We will provide 3 Star lodging in Kathmandu valley during our trek in mountains which are called Tea Houses. If one wants to stay in more luxurious hotels, and there are a few, the cost Per Person is $150 US additional for all days!

Food on Everest Base Camp Trek
There are plenty of local lodges and tea-house on the way to Everest Base Camp trek. As a popular trekking trail, you can get different choices of food on your way towards the base camp of the highest mountain on earth. You can find the menu with varieties of food choices from western, Indian, Italian, and local food. From Dal Bhat to Pizza, you have it all.

Average Walking Hours
Although the walking hours differ every day, we can sum up the average walk to be around 6 hours every day. The walking hours are certainly only a tentative measurement. It doesn’t reflect exactly the same for everyone.

EBC Trekking Difficulty Level
The trek to Everest Base Camp certainly involves difficulty and challenges. You will have to go through several challenges on the trek although it is just a moderately difficult trek. You don’t need any technical skills.

Day 1: Arrival at Kathmandu

The first day of your adventure trip to the Everest Base Camp starts with your arrival in Kathmandu. A representative will welcome us at the airport on our arrival. He will transfer us to the hotel where we will time to relax after checking in. We will meet you in the evening at the hotel to talk about the trip in detail. Any questions you may have regarding your trip will be discussed so that you are well-prepared.

Day 2: Kathmandu Sightseeing Tour

We will take an acclimatization day in Kathmandu where we spend time exploring the cultural heritage sites in the valley. The sightseeing tour that starts after breakfast takes us to four of the amazing cultural heritage monuments in Kathmandu valley.

Exploring Swayambhunath, Patan Durbar Square, Pashupatinath, and Boudhanath will give you an incredible experience of ancient, medieval, and modern cultural, historical, and spiritual wonders. You will see and experience the lifestyle in Kathmandu during the tour. The tour will take pretty much all day. We will return back to the hotel later in the afternoon.

We will do the last minute preparation and packing for the trekking adventure to start tomorrow.

Day 3: Kathmandu – Lukla (2,860m) – Phakding (2,660m)

We have an early morning flight to Lukla today. So, we drive to the airport for the exciting Himalayan flight to the gateway to the Everest region. A wonderful flight on a small airplane takes us to the beautiful town of Lukla with the views of stunning mountains.

After landing at Lukla, we meet our whole trekking crew and get ready to walk for the day. It is an easy start of the adventure trek to Everest Base Camp. We are going to trek to Phakding village on the bank of the Dudh Koshi River. Around four hours of trek introduces us to the trail, surroundings, nature, and the views of mountains in the Everest region. The atmosphere of our overnight site, Phakding, feels amazing on the bank of the gushing river.

Day 4 : Phakding – Namche (3,440m)

The second day of the walk today takes us to the beautiful and famous Sherpa town of Namche B440azar at an elevation of 3, meters above sea level. Almost all uphill walks for the day takes us past the beautiful natural surroundings of nature and the view of mountains. As we enter the Sagarmatha National Park today, we will also walk over several exciting suspension bridges over the gushing river.

Finally, we reached Namche Bazaar after a walk of around six hours. The view of the mountains and wonderful surroundings of Namche helps us relax and settle. We take it easy to acclimatize well to the changing climatic situation and elevation.

Day 5: Acclimatization Day

We have an extra day stopover at Namche today that will help us acclimatize well before we head further higher. Namche has beautiful places in the surroundings where we can go for day hiking and exploration instead of staying idle at the lodge and bazaar. The hiking exploration for the day will also help us get better acclimatized and we become ready to trek to the higher elevation.

Day 6 : Namche – Tengboche (3,860m)

As we are getting used to the thinning air of the higher elevation, we prepare to trek to the next place. Our walk for the day in the region takes us to Tengboche village that is famous for its beautiful monastery and the view of mountains like Ama Dablam it provides. Around seven hours of the walk takes us up and down the mountains and through streams and nature with a view to the destination.

Once we reach Tengboche, we will have time to explore the monastery and surroundings after settling into the lodge.

Day 7 : Tengboche – Dingboche (4,410m

We continue further higher on our trek. The trek today takes us to Dingboche via Pangboche village. When we reach the overnight destination today, we will already be at an elevation of 4,410 meters above sea level. Another beautiful day of trekking through the cultural village and natural surroundings has so many beautiful things to offer. From lush nature to changing the landscape to the wonderful culture and lifestyle of the Sherpa people living in the region is simply awesome.

Day 8: Acclimatization Day

It is time to take another acclimatization day before we trek further higher towards the base camp of the highest mountain in the world. We again go, like at Namche, for hiking exploration to the surrounding destinations. The exploration today will bring us spectacular views of the mountains and surrounding landscapes. We will spend half of our day hiking and the latter half exploring and relaxing at Dingboche.

Day 9 : Dingboche – Lobuche (4,910m)

Time to trek to another destination! We walk through the glacial path on the famous Khumbu glacier today towards Lobuche as our destination for the day. The landscape changes drastically and the wilderness grows to a more peaceful and magnificent one. We will walk through the trail that’s filled with huge boulders and moraine. We will certainly feel the oxygen level getting thinner as we trek further and higher. Slowly but ultimately, we will make it to Lobuche to stay overnight. At Lobuche we check into the guest house and relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings!

Day 10 : Lobuche – Gorakshep (5,164m) – Everest Base Camp (5,364m)

Finally, the most exciting day of the trip has arrived. We are going to be at the base camp of Mt. Everest and enjoy the long awaited arrival there!! We will trek towards Gorakshep that is our overnight site for the day and check into a lodge before heading to the base camp. The walk to the Everest base camp starts after enjoying lunch at the highest overnight site for the trip.

Upon arrival at the famous Everest Base Camp we can take in the overwhelmingly magnificent surroundings, feel the accomplishment of completing the trek destination, and spend some beautiful moments there with plenty of PHOTO OPS!!! We then trek back to Gorak Shep to stay overnight. The day has brought us to the base camp of the highest mountain in the world!!

Day 11: Gorak Shep – Kalapatthar (5,545m) – Pheriche (4,371m)

Although every day of the adventure trek to the Everest base camp is exciting, we are about to experience another incredibly exciting moment of the trip! An early morning hiking trip to the Kalapatthar viewpoint, the highest elevation of the trek, awaits us! The panoramic view of Mt. Everest and other mountains in the surroundings is simply breathtaking. We will also get to enjoy a joyous sunrise experience over the mountains. Later, we hike back down to Gorakshep and trek further down to Pheriche. Pheriche is a famous overnight stop for trekkers. We will enjoy the beautiful surroundings once we check into a lodge.

Day 12 : Pheriche – Namche (3,440m)

Our walking journey in the Everest region continues back towards Namche bazaar today.

Day 13: Namche – Lukla (2,860m)

This is the last day of the trek and we traverse the trail all the way to Lukla from Namche. Once we reach Lukla and check into the lodge, we will take time to explore and wander around the place. It has been an amazing adventure to the Everest Base Camp thanks to the whole team who made the adventure safe for us and provided us an awesome experience!! We befriended people, mountains, nature, and breathtaking surroundings that have left an incredible impression on us!!

Day 14: Lukla – Kathmandu

We take a flight back to Kathmandu and enjoy our afternoon and evening at our leisure either relaxing at our hotel or further explore this vibrant city!

Day 15: Free Day in Kathmandu

An extra day in Kathmandu as a contingency to compensate for any possible flight delay or cancellation.

Day 16: Departure Day

The 16 Day Everest Base Camp Trek comes to an end with beautiful memories and the experience of adventure trekking to the base camp of the highest mountain in the world!!
